One of the necessary tasks to maintain and extend the life of faucets is to descale faucets. Because the presence of sediment will cause the water pressure to decrease a lot. This happens especially on the bathroom shower. The presence of sediment in the faucet may be due to the hardness of the water in your area, and this condition can be seen even when you have recently purchased the faucet. These deposits are usually made of calcium and magnesium. Removing deposits is very simple and does not take much time. In this article, we intend to mention the methods of descaling in faucets.

Cause of deposits

Inside the faucets, the remaining water gradually evaporates and minerals remain on the surface and inside the faucet, which are solidified by the passage of time and prevent the flow of water. In addition to chemicals, you can also use materials found at home to remove faucet deposits.

The best materials for descaling faucets

It should be noted that the best materials for removing sediments are the use of acidic liquids. Acidic liquids can remove deposits well. You can use the following liquids to remove deposits created in your faucets:

Lemon juice: If the deposits created on the faucets and inside the faucet are made of lime, you can easily clean them with lemon juice. The citric acid in the lemon helps to remove the deposited minerals from the faucets. You can use lemon juice to clean the sediments of lever and classic faucets with chrome, brass and copper materials, and after finishing this work, wash the faucet and dry it with a cloth.
White Vinegar: You can use heated white vinegar to remove scale from faucets, which will have an amazing effect.
Cleaning materials containing phosphoric acid
Cleaning materials containing dilute sulfuric acid: When using these materials, make sure that the place is well ventilated.

Use gloves when using vinegar and lemon because these substances can cause damage to your skin.

Among other suitable ways to descale faucets

Another way to remove faucet deposits is to cover the faucet or shower head with a bag and secure it around with tape or elastic. After an hour, use a toothbrush or a soft sponge to clean the deposits from the faucet and inside the faucet head. In the meantime, you can use a toothpick to open the holes in the valve head.

Cleaning the head geysers

In this method, you can remove the deposits from the faucet heads by opening the faucet head and placing the net in it for de-scaling in a container containing some vinegar or other acidic de-scaling materials mentioned in the text. Then clean the net using a toothbrush. To open this part, take care of its components and parts so that you can put them on the valve in the same order as before after cleaning. In addition, if you use strong acids for descaling, be sure to use gloves and do not put these parts inside these materials for more than the specified time because it will damage them.

Descaling of valve bodies

For this, you can dip an old towel or cloth in vinegar and then wipe it over the milk and its sediments. For more results, it is better to let the vinegar stay on the milk for one to two hours and finally remove the deposits from the milk using a toothbrush or a soft sponge.

The presence of sediment in the faucet may be due to the hardness of the water in your area, and this condition can be seen even when you have recently purchased the faucet.

Ways to avoid re-formation of deposits

If you live in an area where the water hardness is high and causes sediment, it is better to use filters or water filtration systems. This system can remove the hardness of the water and also control the excess minerals in the water.
